Apple Accredits Coders HQ as a Training Centre: What It Means for UAE Founders Hiring App Developers
Apple has accredited Coders HQ, the UAE's national hub for programmers, as an authorised education training centre for app development in Swift. Course dates and numbers are not yet public, but founders building mobile products should take note. Here is what was announced and how to use it.

DUBAI — The UAE’s national hub for programmers has gained a new partner for mobile app skills. Apple has accredited Coders HQ as an authorised education training centre, the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office announced on October 29, which the country marks as UAE Codes Day.
For founders, the news is about talent. For startups that reach customers through phone apps, mobile developers are a core hire, and a new local route into Apple’s development tools could, over time, widen that pool.
What Was Announced
According to the AI Office’s statement and The National:
- Coders HQ joins Apple’s global network of accredited educational institutions.
- It will offer specialised app development training using Apple’s Develop in Swift educational resources, built around Swift, the programming language Apple uses for apps across its operating systems, including the iPhone’s iOS.
- Participants will gain practical experience in designing, developing and testing apps, and will be introduced to international programming initiatives and app development challenges.
- The arrangement also covers professional development for trainers and knowledge exchange with educational institutions abroad.
“A competitive digital economy begins with people who have the skills to embrace emerging technologies and the ability to translate knowledge into solutions that make a meaningful difference in society,” said Dr. Abdelrahman Al Mahmoud, director of department at the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office, in the statement.
What We Do Not Know Yet
Key details are still missing. As EconoTimes noted, the AI Office did not say when training will begin, how many people it will serve, what the course schedule will be, or whether participants will receive a credential. Founders should treat this as a pipeline that will take time to produce job-ready developers, not an immediate source of hires.
About Coders HQ
Coders HQ launched in January 2022 under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as part of the National Programme for Coders. The National reports that it was launched in partnership with more than 40 companies, including Adnoc, Majid Al Futtaim, Microsoft, Meta, IBM and Dell Technologies. The AI Office describes it as a platform that brings together developers, entrepreneurs and emerging digital talent.
The Size of the Prize
Apple’s platform is large. Citing the company’s 2025 transparency report, The National says Apple has more than 60 million registered developers and more than 2.17 million apps on its App Store, and that developers have earned more than $550 billion since the App Store launched in 2008. EconoTimes notes that the $550 billion figure covers developers selling digital goods and services through the App Store.
What It Means for Founders
This is our editorial reading.
- Plan for a growing junior pool. If courses launch at scale, expect more entry-level Swift developers in the UAE market. Startups that can mentor juniors may find hiring easier and cheaper than competing only for senior talent.
- Get to know Coders HQ now. The platform describes itself as a meeting point for developers and entrepreneurs. Founders who join its community, share project briefs or mentor learners may be better placed when trained developers start looking for work.
- Upskill your own team. If you already employ web or backend engineers, ask whether the programme will be open to working professionals. Apple’s own learning resources include Develop in Swift and Swift certification for learners.
- Weigh native versus cross-platform. More local Swift talent could make native iPhone apps easier to staff. Founders choosing a mobile stack should consider where their hiring pool is heading, not only where it is today.
- Watch for challenges and competitions. The AI Office says participants will be introduced to international app development challenges. These can be a low-cost way for startups to spot promising developers.
The Bottom Line
Apple’s accreditation gives Coders HQ a recognised curriculum for one of the world’s largest app platforms. Until course dates and capacity are published, the immediate benefit for founders is limited. Over the next year, though, it could become a steady source of mobile talent, and the founders who engage early will be best placed to hire from it.
Details come from the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office, The National, EconoTimes and Apple as of October 31, 2026. Course dates, eligibility and capacity had not been announced at the time of writing.
